YOUTH SKILLS DAY: ONDO STATE GOVERNOR LAUNCHES SKILL ENTERPRISE CENTRE TO EMPOWER YOUTHS

The Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has inaugurated the Ondo State Skill Enterprise Development Centre in a bid to empower young people with practical, market-ready skills.

The launch, which took place along Oda Road in Akure, was part of activities to commemorate the 2025 World Youth Skills Day, initiated by the United Nations.

The initiative aims to prepare youths for self-reliance and economic productivity in a rapidly evolving job market, with particular emphasis on digital literacy and vocational training.

Announcing the launch via his official Facebook page, Governor Aiyedatiwa said: “Youths are the backbone of any society. For any government to succeed, the development of young people must be at the core of its plans.”

Acknowledging the limited availability of white-collar employment, the governor noted that the new centre is focused on providing training in skills that can lead to sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurial success.

“Our administration remains committed to equipping young people in our dear state with the essential skills required to thrive in today’s world,” he added.

Correspondingly, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Mr. Orioye Gbayisemore, described the Centre as a concrete step towards addressing youth unemployment.

The 2025 theme for World Youth Skills Day: “Youth Empowerment through AI and Digital Skills” underscores the growing importance of technology in workforce development, and Ondo State’s new centre aligns with this vision, offering programmes intended to position young Nigerians at the forefront of innovation and self-sufficiency.

The project is part of broader efforts to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those relating to quality education, decent work, and economic growth.
