“TRAILBLAZER: NIGERIA’S FIRST FEMALE FIGHTER PILOT CLINCHES TOP AWARDS IN GHANA”

Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, has been honoured on Friday with two prestigious awards at the graduation ceremony of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.

She received the Best Allied Student Award and the Best Assistant Commandant Paper Award, distinguishing herself among military officers from across the continent.

The ceremony, held at the College and attended by top military officials and dignitaries from various African countries, marked another milestone in Sanni’s groundbreaking career.

Sanni first gained national recognition in 2019 when she was commissioned as the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) first female fighter pilot, following her completion of pilot training in the United States.

Since then, she has flown combat aircraft including the Alpha Jet and served as a flight instructor on the Super Mushshak, mentoring a new generation of NAF pilots.

Her recent accolades, according to military observers, highlight both personal resilience and the strategic impact of the NAF’s investment in capacity building.

Under the leadership of Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Air Force continues to promote gender inclusion and professional development within its ranks.

Her achievements at GAFCSC underscore her continued excellence and Nigeria’s growing influence in regional military training and leadership.
