NSCDC EDO COMMANDANT DIES AFTER SPEECH AT PEACE EVENT IN BENIN
The Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Gbenga Agun, tragically collapsed and died on Thursday during a public event marking the 2025 International Day of Peace.
The commandant slumped in his seat shortly after delivering a keynote speech at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre in Benin City. Despite immediate efforts to revive him at the scene, he was rushed to the Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Agun, a respected operations officer known for his dedication to public safety, showed no visible signs of distress before the incident. The unexpected nature of his passing has sparked public concern around heart health, stress, and the importance of regular medical check-ups, especially for high-ranking officers and professionals under chronic stress.
Ogbebor Efosa, spokesperson for the Edo NSCDC Command, confirmed the passing on Friday. “As an astute operations officer, Commandant Agun Gbenga worked tirelessly to ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens. The NSCDC and the nation have lost a dedicated officer,” Efosa said.
The NSCDC headquarters is expected to release an official statement soon.
