INTERNATIONAL DAY OF HOPE: A DIVINE CALL TO KEEP HOPE ALIVE

In a world often clouded by despair and uncertainty, there is one force that continues to shine through—hope. Not merely wishful thinking, but a deep, transformative belief in a better tomorrow.

On this International Day of Hope, we are called, not just as citizens of nations, but as members of a shared humanity, to pause, reflect, and reignite the lamp of hope, no matter how dim the surroundings.

But how do we hold on to hope in a time when anxiety, depression, and restlessness seem to be constant companions?

As a poet of piety, I often return to the timeless truths that anchor my soul, as the Psalmist once wrestled with the same heaviness many of us feel today, crying out: “Why art thou cast down, O my soul?

and why art thou disquieted within me?

Hope in God: for I shall yet praise him…” (Psalm 43:5)

This isn’t just religious resolution; it’s a soul-deep reminder that hope is not passive—it’s active, assertive, and rooted in something greater than the moment.

For the believer, this is the divine paradox: even in suffering, hope remains because Christ in you is the Hope of Glory. Yes, the nights can be long. The battles inward. The trials fierce. But we are never alone.

A GLOBAL CALL TO HOPE

This same spirit echoes in the heart of the UN’s declaration for this day. Rooted in the values of dignity, peace, tolerance, and inclusion, the International Day of Hope invites all nations and peoples to affirm a truth we often forget during heartaches:

Hope is not a luxury. It’s a necessity.

Scientific research supports what scripture has always suggested: Hope heals. It calms the storm of the mind, strengthens the will, and even enhances physical recovery. The World Health Organization links hope to lower anxiety and improved mental health.

Neuroimaging shows it even activates reward centers in the brain. It’s no wonder the UN is investing in a Voluntary Hope Index—because what gets measured can be nurtured, and what is nurtured can thrive.

And so, in homes, classrooms, houses of worship, and halls of government, we are urged to foster hope—through forgiveness, kindness, education, and empathy. The smallest spark can light an entire path forward.

THE “BCD” EQUATION: DIVINE ARITHMETIC FOR LIFE’S STORMS

Let me offer you a framework I call the BCD Equation—a spiritual solution for those moments when doubt clouds your view and despair whispers lies.

  •  He will Bear you
  •  He will Carry you
  • He will Deliver you

This isn’t poetic metaphor—it’s a promise straight from Isaiah 46:4.

“Even to your old age I am He… I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”

To those facing depression: You’re not forgotten. To those dealing with fear: You are not fatherless. To those overwhelmed by loss: You are not alone. You were made by the One who still bears your weight and walks with you, even now.

SINCE THERE IS HOPE, YOU CAN COPE!

So today, as the world commemorates this International Day of Hope, let us take it personally. Let it remind us that no matter the chaos, the cross still stands. That no matter the breakdown, there is always a breakthrough. That in Christ, and in conscience, hope is not just possible—it is promised.

Stay Motivated. Don’t Give Up. Keep Hope Alive. Because…

“When There Is Hope, You Can Cope!”
