According to him, there are three major types:
1. Type 1 Diabetes
- Common in younger people.
- The body produces little or no insulin.
- Previously called Insulin dependent.
- Patients require insulin injections for survival.

2. Type 2 Diabetes
- More common in adults and older people.
- The body cannot use insulin properly.
- Managed mostly with Oral Hypoglycemic Agents (OHA), though insulin may be needed in some cases.
WHO reports that 95% of diabetes cases are Type 2— a form that is often preventable.
3. Gestational Diabetes
- Occurs during pregnancy.
- Usually resolves after childbirth.
- However, mothers remain at higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life.
