“ONE RECORD BECAME TWO”— GUINNESS CONFIRMS HILDA BACI AS THREE-TIME RECORD HOLDER
Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially confirmed Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci as a three-time world record holder, following the recognition that her historic largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice also qualifies as the largest serving of rice overall.
The confirmation was announced on Wednesday via Guinness World Records’ official X page, where the global record body declared that Baci’s jollof rice feat earned her two record titles from a single cookout, bringing her total Guinness titles to three.
“Yes, it’s true! @hildabacicooks is a three-time @GWR holder after her largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice has also been awarded the record title for the largest serving of rice overall,” the statement read.
The recognition stems from a Lagos cookout where Baci prepared an astonishing 8,780 kilograms of Nigerian-style jollof rice, a feat she revealed last year had broken the world record for the largest serving of the iconic West African dish.
Reacting to the official confirmation, the culinary star said she was both shocked and delighted by the news, explaining that she had initially believed she had secured only one record from the event.
“So what I thought was one record… turned out to be two. And now, officially, that makes three Guinness World Records in total,” she said.
This latest achievement builds on Baci’s earlier historic milestone in May 2023, when she completed a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, earning her global acclaim and making her Nigeria’s first chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records.
