TINUBU HAILS CUSTOMS REFORMS AS CG ADEWALE ADENIYI MARKS 60TH BIRTHDAY
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Adewale Bashir Adeniyi, for instituting far-reaching reforms that have strengthened revenue generation, improved trade facilitation, and repositioned the Service for global competitiveness, as the Customs chief marks his 60th birthday.
The commendation was conveyed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga recently.
According to the statement, President Tinubu said Dr. Adeniyi has demonstrated “sincere dedication to national service, disciplined leadership, and a commitment to excellence,” qualities he noted have translated into measurable institutional improvements within the Nigerian Customs Service.
The President observed that under Adeniyi’s leadership, the NCS has recorded enhanced operational efficiency, stronger community relations, increased revenue performance, and improved collaboration with international trade partners, all of which have contributed to Nigeria’s broader economic objectives.
President Tinubu further described Adeniyi’s election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in June 2025 as a landmark achievement, noting that it reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in global customs administration.
He added that the Comptroller-General’s inclusive, practical, and charismatic leadership at the WCO has positively projected both Nigeria and the African continent on the international stage.
Beyond his achievements in public service, Dr. Adeniyi’s journey is often recalled as one of academic excellence and visionary leadership.
A proud alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Lagos, he was known as an ambitious and forward-looking student whose career has spanned over three decades of impactful service.
In recognition of his professional distinction and thought leadership, the Institute, 30 years after his graduation, invited him to deliver its 7th Convocation Lecture, themed “AI in Public Governance.”
The lecture underscored his depth of insight at the intersection of education, technology, and public administration, further signalling his leadership competence both in governance and intellectual development.
