ONDO STATE JOINS GLOBAL 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM, LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

The Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has announced its full participation in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual international campaign running from November 25 to December 10.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Seun Bosede Osamaye, revealed the state’s lineup of activities aimed at combating all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with a focus on this year’s theme: “Ending Digital Violence Against Women and Girls.”

Launching the campaign via an official statement on her social media page, Osamaye said Ondo State will join global stakeholders to raise awareness, strengthen prevention systems, and advocate for improved protection and justice for women, girls, and vulnerable persons across the state.

The Commissioner disclosed that the 2025 campaign will feature several coordinated interventions, including:

  • Advocacy Campaign Launch & Press Briefing
  • Stakeholders Engagements and Community Outreach
  • Medical, Counselling, and Legal Services for Survivors, including referral pathways
  • Enhanced capacity building and expanded awareness through social media platforms

She emphasized that digital platforms have become new frontiers for violence, making it essential to address online harassment, cyberbullying, sextortion, misinformation, and harmful digital trends targeting women and girls.

Dr Osamaye, who has continued to champion policies that elevate women’s safety and welfare in the state, urged residents, community institutions, and policymakers to participate actively throughout the 16-day global campaign.

She affirmed that ending GBV requires shared responsibility, consistent advocacy, and strengthened support systems for survivors. “This is a call to action for everyone in Ondo State,” she noted.

The Commissioner encouraged citizens to “mark their calendars” and join the movement as the state renews its commitment to eliminating gender-based violence in all its forms.
